Shift Racing Apparel.

We are very fortunate here at ATVPT to have Shift Racing provide us with an assortment of MX Racing apparel to Field Test and Review here at ATVPT.

This field tests and reviews will be conducted by ATVPT's Jim Anderson (MN), Eric Plut (MN) and Patrick Saunders (MI).

This is something we having been looking forward to doing. Besides wearing a helmet, having durable padded safe clothing while you are riding is imperative for trail safety.

ATVPT's Pro Test Rider Lee Gross featuring the SHIFT Squadron 3/4 Ride Jersey, SHIFT Assault MX Gloves, SHIFT Squadron Race pants, and the SHIFT Combat Boots. We are really pleased with the addition of these dedicated ATV apparel from Shift. First impressions from wearing this new shift wear is comfort, with a true relaxed fit, and appears very durable. The boots and gloves fit extremely well and also feel like you have the ultimate protection in these areas of coverage.

Lee commented from wearing the Shift Gear during our mud tire tests that it was very comfortable to wear. In our trek through the mud holes Lee managed to stay dry in the legs and feet area, even after being submerged in water for a brief period. Overall he felt very pleased with the way the boots, gloves, pants and shirt fit him.

He asked me if he could take them home to have them cleaned with the promise of returning them right away, but I declined, right!

First Impression:
	This latest release of MX racing riding apparel from SHIFT looks to be designed durable, comfortable and with cutting edge yet sensible fashion in mind. These pants were clearly built heavy duty with 600D poly twill construction. Jersey is 100% polyester, gloves are Nylon and Spandura, all these materials proven in the field of off road riding. I really am impressed with the cool features of the pants, durable military style belt, huge functional pockets, zip off legs and great reinforcements in key areas.
Field Test:
	I field tested these products over the course of 4 months in a variety of environmental conditions ranging from dry dirt/dusty trails to sloppy mud and even snow. I’ve rode over 300miles on the trail with these products and they performed quite well through temperatures ranging from about -10F to 80F. In the warmer temps these pants breathe very well and kept me comfortable while riding. In the colder temps below 40F I needed to add an under layer for added warmth, but these pants aren't designed for cold weather so that's fine. They do come with a comfortable inner liner and the design is a relaxed fit that allows under layers if need be. The strategic venting allowed comfortable riding for an aggressive rider like me. I personally prefer the open “boot cut” design of these pants since they allow for a variety of boot coverage along with an internal gaiter to lock out water and mud.The placement of Ballistic panels for abrasion and heat resistance on these pants is also a great feature for protection and longevity. I like the square cut collar and the ¾ sleeve fit of the jersey. This provides good coverage without an excessive amount of sleeve flapping in the wind, and I’ve never been a big fan of v-necks either since my grandmother smothered me with those as a child. The gloves are comfortable, offer good protection and come at a pretty fair price. I like how the mud washes right out of these materials as well.

	Sensible design I think will please riders ranging from the young racer to seasoned weekend warrior

	Adjustable waist size would be nice

Bottom Line

This is a racing series apparel line designed for high performance which will primarily suit the racer but should also do a great job satisfying the recreational rider.
