My Impressions:
Pros:
Scala-rider Q2 comes with everything you need to set up 2 helmets for rider use.
Quality components.
Easy helmet installation.
Cons:
Set up for rider use is trying.
Bottom Line:
We have had this dilemma when riding about communication between other riders in the group. We have several ways to communicate, like the Scala-rider Q2, walkie talkies, and hand signals, or just stop and chat.
Each method has it's advantages. But also each method has their drawbacks too. We decided to go with the Scala-rider Q2 because of my good luck with the system I had on my BMW K1200LTE road bike. With the system on my BMW it was just a matter of turning on the bike and using it by voice activation or with the push to talk.
With the Scala-rider Q2 system you need to initially set up your head sets to be able to receive signals from each set. This is a bit trying to do but if you follow the directions you can get this done in no time at all. Just remember that this system does more then just give you the ability to communicate with your riding partner.
You can talk back and forth with your riding partner by using the voice activation through your boom mike, or by activating the intercom control button.
If you would like to listen to tunes, you have a couple of options for this. The unit has a built in fm radio which you can tune into a variety of available area stations. You can also program in six stations of your own choice. If you chose to use your mp-3 player with this set up, it is just a matter of hooking it up with the supplied cord.
You also have the options of attaching your phone or gps to this unit too.
We are choosing to use this Scala-rider Q2 set up for rider communications and a vehicle for attaching our mp-3 players. This is proving to be a very capable platform for these functions so far.
So far it has been a bit of a challenge to activate the buttons with our winter gloves on, but the voice activation works great. Why would this bother anyone you say, well if you want to adjust your volume for you radio or headsets, you need to be able to feel the control buttons. This requires removal of your glove to do this, and when it's cold out I will just deal with the preset volume.
Ride review pending. We will be adding more to this review as we do more field testing with the Scala-rider Q2 unit.
So far would I recommend the Scala-rider Q2 unit for rider communication, yes............ This is a very cost effective way of getting hands free communication between riders, that demand a quality form of rider communication device. It is a bonus to have mutli use capabilities from this unit.
