First Impressions:

Sweet! Real suspension on an ATV wagon. The Plateau is pretty compact and looks like it has plenty of ground clearance; it even has a roof rack. One of the first things I noticed with this trailer is the weight, or lack thereof, due to having to lift the trailer into the bed of my lifted truck. I went to pick it up and expected to strain my back and was very surprised and pleased to find out how light it is. We are taking this trailer to the Paiute ATV trail to see if we can break it.

Field Test:

I am so impressed with how light this wagon is compared to the load capacity. This is the lightest wagon I have pulled that is still strong enough to handle the rough and rugged trails in Utah.

On the Paiute ATV Trail located in Central Utah, we hammered this wagon for days on end. We used it to carry our gear on long rides and to haul water in large containers to the camp site to replenish the supply for the campers. The more weight we had in the trailer, the better it performed. When the trailer was nearly empty, or had little weight in it, the trailer bounced around quite a bit. We were pleased to discover that it settled right down and followed nicely behind the ATV at any speed.
I made it a point to ride like I normally would when I am not towing, just to see how much abuse the Plateau would take. The only problem that I had with the trailer was the rubber latch that is used to hold the lid down. The rubber was either cut from a rough edge or it broke. We had to use a bungee cord to hold the lid down for the rest of the trip. LMPCI shipped me a new rubber latch and so far it is working fine; I filed the edges of the lid where it latches just to eliminate that as a culprit. When I talked to LMPCI, they told me that this was only the 3rd trailer out of all that they have sold that they have had a problem with the latch. Time will tell if the new latch will work.

A great feature of the Plateau is the convenience of (2), 2.5 gallon, spill proof gas containers.  I used to use a flat container that was a little larger, but weighed allot more and it had to be tied down in every direction to keep it from flopping around.  Now, just slip the containers into their cozy resting spots and attach the supplied bungee cords.  No mess, no noticeable added weight to your machine, and very convenient.

One thing to make sure of when you are loading your gear into the trailer is to keep the majority of the weight towards the bottom of the trailer.  This is to keep the center of gravity down.  We tried several different configurations with our gear and the roof rack and some of the combinations were too heavy on the top side causing the trailer to sway from side to side.  As long as you pack it with that in mind, you should be fine.

As much as we tried, we could not fit 1,200 pounds of gear in the trailer.  The load capacity is pretty amazing!

This trailer is perfect for what I need it for. Hauling my extra gear and fuel on the Utah trails is now enjoyable rather than stressful due to the fact that I can trust the light weight and sturdy Plateau ATV Wagon.

Bottom Line
