First Impression:

I cut a lot of wood with my chainsaw, and I’m also usually using my ATV for accessing the woods and pulling the wood out. For years I have suffered the frustration of strapping down my saw to my rack in fear of the sharp chain cutting the tie downs or damaging my ATV or even injuring someone. I seen this Saw Press from Kolpin and thought I’d give it a try. This seems to be a very heavy duty and well built product out of a very sturdy gauge steel that is powder coated. It comes with a highly adaptable mounting kit and hardware designed well to be used with the gloved hand, very thoughtful design by Kolpin.

Field Test:

After I had previously installed the Lock and Load system, slipping in the Saw Press was quite fast and painless. Loading the saw into the press is a quick and easy process by simply loosening and tightening the two large thumb wheel nuts. Since the saw press kit is made of heavy duty steel, then adding a heavy chain saw seemed to be perhaps a little too much load for the Lock and Load system. But this press performed well for me through the rigors of cutting wood and driving around the woods with it mounted to my ATV. I not experience any failure so far during my testing. A padding lined steel clamp holds the saw for a nice secure mount during the ride. Kolpin recommends using the saw bar/chain protector provided with your saw to help extend the life of the padding. I agree with this, since the sharp chain could damage the padding.

Recommendation:
	If you are the occasional light to medium duty user, I recommend using the lock and load system. If you are the hard core full time, heavy user type, I recommend using the original, more permanent mounting hardware provided for a stronger more durable mount.
