First Impressions:
      Kolpin is one of very few companies that make ATV accessories such as hunting necessities etc. Being the hunter that I am, I found myself in need of a Gun Boot for my ATV to safely and lawfully transport my rifle. So I looked at the Gun Boot IV and Boottector Bracket along with Lock and Load system from Kolpin. Since I use my ATV for both rifle season and archery season during the same time, I wanted a Gun Boot system that is quick and easy to mount and remove repeatedly as needed. This system appeared to be what I’m looking for. After mounting the system on my machine and testing it out here during the Minnesota Deer Season, I found this product to be quite satisfactory.


Field Testing:
      After I had previously installed the Lock and Load system, slipping the Gun Boot IV with Boottector was quite fast and painless. In just seconds I could easily slip my gun into the boot, lock it in and go hunting. Thanks to great design with quick release locking pins this is a very easy product to use. The Gun Boot IV comes with removable Velcro fastened padding on the inside to help protect your gun investment. The heavy duty Polyethylene shell proved to be quite durable and stood my rough testing in cold temps of 20F as I repeatedly smashed into brush and downed dead trees and branches with this thing and it did not break, I’m pretty impressed. I’m always concerned about plastic products I use in the cold winter temps. Kolpin did their homework on this one folks. I found my rifle fit snug and secure even with my high profile peep sight mounted scope. Removable liner is a great idea with being secured by Velcro. I used this product while riding through the brutally bumpy frozen bogs and thick brush in Northern Minnesota, if it passes this test, it’s a quality product in my opinion.



Pros:
    Great functional design made with tough materials that perform, great unit!
    Modular design allows use of the Gun Boot IV as a carry around or mounted Gun Boot
    I found several gun models and styles to fit great
    Adaptability, adjustability is great for any ATV model

Cons:
    Would be nice if the Velcro came pre-applied from the factory

Bottom Line

  I did not allow this product any mercy in my field testing, and it not only passed my testing, it impressed me.
