Putting the Commander Tracks through it's paces in the "Snow"

Kimpex Commander Track review & field test by ATVPT's, Patrick Saunders. Tracks were provided courtesy of Kimpex.

We have been tossing around the idea of how we can get more seasonal use out of our ATV's. Kimpex has kindly offered to have us review their new Commander Track System, that is designed to transverse most any snow you will encounter. Bare in mind these tracks can be used in other areas but they are designed specifically for snow. We are using ours in wet conditions here at ATVPT headquarters, just to get you some pictures before we get our winter snows here in Michigan.
Let me tell you, these tracks add an uncanny stability to your ATV, and make it a climbing machine.
Bottom Line: Look out hills!

  • Weight is 85 lbs each. (With installation kit).
Adds approximately 280 lbs. to vehicle.
  • Installs in two hours after initial installation.  Installation brackets must be removed when changing to tires.

  • Take note of how the tracks float over wet areas that we have a problem walking through. Running these tracks during this time of the year should prove to have limited impact on our trails.
  • This is a serious problem with the tire equipped vehicles this time of the year. You have to be careful to not create too many ruts before the ground is frozen.
  • If you do this you will have serious problems trying to drive on frozen ruts in your trails.

Pulling out a non tracked ATV

My Impressions:

Pros:
These tracks from Kimpex bring new meaning to the words,
"All Terrain Vehicle".

These tracks are designed to work in 'snow', and they work extremely well in that environment.

Climbing hills & traveling over deep snow is absolutely no challenge for these tracks.

Cons:
These tracks are designed for snow only. It would be nice to have all season capability tracks as an option.

Bottom Line:
I would highly recommend checking these tracks out if you live in an area where you have an abundance of snow, and would like to be able to extend your ATV riding season.

This winter I was able to use my ATV all winter, and I was able to travel places that a normal ATV would struggle or not be able to venture near.

I am looking forward to trying these tracks out in more snow next year.
