Product Review |

| Product: | - HMF Utility Series Performance Muffler |
| Machine: | - 2003 Kawasaki Prairie 650 |
| Review Date: | - December 2006 |
Introduction: |
|
| I have several modifications on my machine including: CDI, air box modifications, high flow air filter, etc… None of my modifications are internal and the machine is considered by most, stock. | |
First Impression: |
|
| I will be testing the HMF Utility Series Full Exhaust (Black). This exhaust system was built with quality at a high priority. The header pipes are clearly larger than the factory pipes and they are made of stainless steel. The header clamps also appear to be of high quality. When installing this exhaust system, I had a grin the entire time knowing that I was installing a quality product. I hope the HMF Full Exhaust System performs as well as it looks. This muffler is not for the faint of heart; it has a very aggressive sound and may be disturbing to some. | |

Right off, I had to re-jet my carburetors to compensate for the improved air flow. HMF states that you have to jet accordingly in order to maintain the factory 2 year warranty. I was already running larger main jets due to some other modifications and a different aftermarket pipe. With the HMF, I had to shim the main needles out and step up one more size on the main jets.
I ride in some hot weather and usually my fan runs quite a bit. Now that I am running the HMF, the fan is running noticeably less. In the past, I have run other aftermarket and modified pipes on the Kawasaki 650 and have had no noticeable power gains. I have to say that I did notice a power increase with the HMF and when the quiet core is removed, the power gain is even more noticeable. If you like loud, this is your pipe. Personally, I am very happy that HMF makes a quiet core for their exhaust systems. I do like to remove the quiet core at the sand dunes where the extra power is welcome and the noise pollution is not an issue. |

Long Term: |
|
| I have put over 1,000 miles on this pipe in all types of extreme environments ranging from below sea level up to 12,000’ in elevation. The headers are in great shape and the canister is also in great shape. I am very pleased with the performance and stamina of this HMF product. | |

I removed the muffler first and then removed the front head pipe. Remember to remove the heat shield off of the front head pipe. This needs to be installed on the new HMF head pipe to deflect the heat away from your leg.
