Product Review

Product: - GBC Dirt Tamers

First Impressions:

The first thing that I noticed with the Dirt Tamer is that they feel and look to be a rugged tire. They are heavy and have little flex to them when not mounted on the wheel. The side walls are considerably stiffer than the factory tires and have side lugs which aid in sidewall protection and traction. It looks like the tread is slightly staggered which should allow good wet and dry traction while still having the ability of cleaning the mud off.

Field Test:

The First ride I took on these tires was a simple spin around the back yard in slightly damp grass. I was extremely surprised when I went to turn a sharp corner to power through causing a power slide and I started spinning. All I could do was to hold on tight and hit the gas hard in order to spin the rest of the way around and re-gain control of the machine. Apparently, the way that the lugs are designed allow for sideways slip. Knowing that now, I use it to my advantage and I have grown to like it. The forward traction is awesome, but when you want to slide in those corners, it doesn’t take much to get it sliding.

These tires have better traction and more responsive handling than the factory tires they replaced. The stiffer sidewalls offer increased stability in the corners and do not bounce around like most bias ply tires do. The aggressive side lugs grab the sides of ruts and offer added traction even in muddy conditions.

We had the opportunity to test these tires in well known Moab, UT. Moab has some serious rock crawling and is very harsh on tires. I am very impressed with how well these tires did on the slick rock; so far, I have not run a better rock tire than the Dirt Tamer. GBC should have named these “Rock Tamers”.

Wear has not been an issue. It looks like we will get allot of miles out of these tires.

Bottom Line:

These tires are heavy; you will notice a difference when replacing factory tires with the Tamers. With the added weight come some benefits, such as a stiffer sidewall and extreme durability. These tires performed well in every trail condition we were able to find including hard pack, sand, grass, mud and especially rock. The GBC Dirt Tamers are solid and durable tires which outperform the factory tires by far. These tires are a must if you ride the slick rock; they should not be overlooked as all around, all terrain tires either.

Note: The Dirt Tamers used for testing were supplied by Greenball Corporation.
