Elka Front Spring Review, by jpsdiving

I took my time purchasing a set of front Elka Suspension springs for my quad for many reasons. After all, why should I change the factory springs on a brand new quad( Wrong!). I had many conversations with My friends Tim Yates, Jody Robinson, and many other respected forum brothers from our forum, www.atvptforum.com & ( the Nyroc Forum), who first made the plunge to purchase new shocks for their quads.

Their are many fine manufactures of ATV Springs on the market today with a varied price on each as well. I made my choice to go with the Elka Suspension Springs for many reasons. First, I am Canadian, and the Elka Suspension Company is a fine Canadian Company. Mainly because of their reputation for producing a quality engineered product made my final decision.

When I ordered my springs, I was amazed at how well built they were. The fit and finish were above par with everything else that I had looked at previously. The instructions were well laid out, even though I had to modify the instructions a bit to suit my needs.

I feel that dollar for dollar, you will not go wrong with your purchase. The Elka Suspension spring set up made my quad feel like it really wanted to go around corners now. When I am doing my tire tests I have went over some really nice bumps and whoop's, with out bottoming out at all.  If you are in the market to start to modify your quad, you should seriously consider changing your springs first.

Thanks Yann.

Elka Shock versus the Stock Shock. Which would you want on your Quad?

I installed the front Elka Shocks in position, on the Quad.

Make sure you have the adjustment the same on both sides.

Long Term Impressions:

Pros:

These are the highest quality after market springs (for your Kawasaki Prairie) that I have tested so far. The construction and attention to detail of this kit is excellent.
Pre-Load Adjustment. This provides you with ride-height adjustability and also compensates for additional weight.
Switchable Crossover Spacers . Which ever position or orientation you install the crossover spacer will allow you to choose between a supple ride and a more responsive one.

Cons:

None. We have been running these springs for over a year without any problems.

Bottom Line

My recommendation when you purchase your ATV is not to look at performance upgrades, but to first tackle the job of making your suspension work for you. If you can't corner or handle the whoops, what good is extra power? The first thing I would recommend is calling Elka Suspension, and ask them what they would recommend for your suspension set up. I have had this suspension upgrade on my 700 Kawasaki Prairie for over a year now, and I feel it is the best modification that I have done to my ATV yet. Having that adjustability for ride height and pre-load is a key feature. This is a very highly recommend addition to your ATV's to do list, with the superior ride results versus stock and also added extra safety of a more stable riding platform. So, the bottom line is, install Elka's and don't look behind you.
