I have used cotton filters with pre-filters on my machines for
several years now and I was a little skeptical about using a foam
filter because I didn’t think that I would get the same performance out
of the foam that I do with the cotton. I have installed the No-Toil
filter and so far I do not notice any power loss. |

Field Test: |
|
|
The foam filter is designed to fit around the OEM filter cage on
the Prairie and it has an extra thick layer of foam at the bottom to
seal it up. The filter fit is not what I expected. The filter bulges
out on the sides due to the fiter being too tall and I am concerned that this will cause problems with
sealing. The filter uses sealing grease on the rim and hopefully this
will compensate for the filter fit. The oil that is used for this particular filter is manufactured by No-Toil and applies like any other oil. As the oil dries, it becomes very tacky. I used latex gloves for application, and I recommend using some sort of glove so you don’t get sticky like your filter. I ride in some extremely dusty conditions out here in the west and filtration is very important. The dust that I run into is very fine and will sneak its way into the smallest gaps. After riding for a week straight in very dusty conditions, I removed the filter for cleaning and I was very happy to find that the filter did what it was designed to do. The outside of the filter had a thick layer of dust on it and the inside of the filter was spotless. Cleaning the filter was a breeze with the No-Toil chemicals. The system is 100% biodegradable and environmentally safe. There are no solvents, no gas, no smell and no toxic dumps. I cleaned my filter in a bucket of water, and if you chose, you can clean it in your washing machine. These filters are so inexpensive that one could even throw it away if you don’t want to clean it. This cleaning and oil system is believed in by top machine manufacturers and they sell it with their name on the bottle. |

Bottom Line |
|
|
| Long term
testing has proven that the filter does what it is designed to do. I
recommend the No-Toil cleaning and oil products for all foam filters. I
also recommend the No-Toil air filter as an inexpensive, easy to clean, high flow
alternative. Note: Product for this review was provided by No-Toil |
