Product Review

Product: - Fly Racing Free Ride Pants
Test Duration: - 2 Months

Machine: - Various

First Impressions:

Basically there is two types of ATV and Motocross riding pants, the original "in the boot" design and now the "over the boot" design. I find the "over the boot" option to be more roomy, breathable and comfortable, and this also allows room for wearing under layers in colder temps. This pant design from Fly Racing is the "over the boot" design which I believe welcomes a more versatile riding gear style to accommodate the pro to recreational rider. With an "over boot design" a rider may have more options of foot wear and protection. These pants come in a standard and zip off design, which again accommodates the recreational rider if you need to cool off and relax in some shorts.

Field Test:

I've worn these pants over the course of the past two months and riding over 200 miles in a variety of terrain and conditions ranging from sand, dirt and muddy swampy trails. Also the temperatures I rode in ranged from 40F to 90F. I ride aggressively most the time, and sometimes I ride moderately depending on where I am and if I know the trails. I found these pants to be very comfortable in any riding style and condition. They breathe very well while doing a great job of protecting me from the elements of sand and mud etc. They do a good job of repelling water, but you will get wet in extended riding in water and rain. The design has good placement of stretch panels and breathing panels to create a comfortable and protective ride on the trail.

I also used these pants riding my sport bike on the road and found them quite exceptional for this also. I wore them over khaki slacks and jeans in colder temps down to 40F, and then alone in temps up to 80F. They break the edge off the cool wind and yet breathe well providing a wide range of useable temps and conditions.

Pros:

Thoughtful design allowing a wide range of versatile riding conditions
Quality and durable materials that perform well
Adjustable, comfortable and protection, couldn't ask for more

Cons:

More color choices in the zip off leg version would be nice

Bottom Line

Very smart design accommodates a wide variety of riding conditions and rider comfort at a spectacular value!

Boot

Product Review

Product: - Fly Racing Viper ATV Boots
Test Duration: - 2 Months

Location: - Minnesota

Review Date: - June 2006

First Impressions:

There is an abundance of choices on the market today for Motocross riding boots, but there are only a few choices of ATV riding boots. In this review I will be discussing the Viper Motocross/ATV boot from FLY Racing. It has the features one should look for in an ATV riding boot. Most importantly in my opinion, #1 being waterproof for those days you may wish to play in the mud and water and then #2 for me would be having exceptional traction for walking around. For my self as well as many fellow riders, we are not only riders but also outdoor enthusiasts and like to walk around while taking a ride break and explore the wilderness. It’s nice to have a boot that will provide traction and comfort, besides the protection of course. My first impression of slipping the boots on was quite pleasant; I found them easy to put on with a good working and easy to use buckle system. They are very comfy yet a little stiff to walk around in. We’ll see how they break in.

Field Test:

I’ve used these boots over the course of the past two months of riding over 200 miles in a variety of terrain and conditions ranging from sand, dirt and muddy swampy trails. Also the temperatures I rode in ranged from 45F to 90F. They did a great job of protecting me from the elements of trail riding. As I rode through sand, mud and water my feet and lower legs stay clean, dry and protected. I found after every ride the boots became more and more comfortable to walk around in. Also the traction on these boots allowed me to move about in the mud while assisting fellow riders winching and pushing through the mud. I was pretty impressed no matter how sandy, muddy and dirty I got these boots, the buckles still performed flawlessly.

Pros:

Unique hybrid design with both the ATV and Motocross rider in mind
Designed to perform and won’t let you down in challenging conditions
Quality, comfortable and some of the best traction I’ve seen on a riding boot

Cons:

Long term testing to try and find any cons.

Bottom Line

These boots come at very reasonable price. I recommend these boots for the pro to average recreational rider.
