2010 Can-Am Winter Riding Apparel

Can-Am has launched a collection of winter ATV riding gear. Cold-weather ATV riding is growing as owners look to expand their riding season.

Many are even making their quads into snow machines with track kits like the Apache WT system from BRP.
 

But too many riders become discouraged and park their ATV for winter because they end up miserable from the wet and cold. 


The right riding gear, however can make long winter rides a blast instead of a drag.


BRP has taken its expertise in designing extreme conditions gear for Ski-Doo snowmobile riding and applied it to a collection of ATV-specific winter riding gear, including jacket, highpants, riding gloves and riding mitts. 


Like with their Can-Am ATVs, BRP is improving the winter riding experience with technology and smart design


These new garments are made with high tech fabrics, insulation and features that keep Ski-Doo snowmobilers warm and dry at -40º and high speeds, yet they’re designed specifically for ATV riding. 

Can-Am is confident they’ll keep more riders from parking their quad when the temps drop, and the snow flies.

My Impressions:

Pros:
  • The RPM MAX fabric used in the jacket and highpants is windproof and waterproof  but also breathable for perspiration to escape.
  • Snow, mud and rain are further kept at bay by sealed seams and logos , a powder skirt and quadruple front zipper flap (jacket), and gaiters (highpants).
  • Premium Primaloft Cresta insulation in the jacket and high pants wont break-down and lose warmth, even after dozens of rides and washings, unlike bargain gear.
  • Critical areas, such as the knees and seat, have warmer insulation than the rest of the garment.
  • Designed specifically for ATV riding, the jacket and highpants are lightweight with excellent comfort.
  • Sleeves and legs pre-shaped into a riding position and accordion joints at the knees for better freedom of movement.
  • The gloves and mitts include winter-riding features such as a Primaloft insulation, large gauntlets, wipers for clearing goggles or visors.
  • Material has antibacterial moisture management linings that not only keep hands dry, but prevent odors.
  • The technical fabrics of all these pieces dry quickly at a rest stop or after a ride.
