DS 450 X mx

2010 What ’s New At A Glance

Here is a quick synopsis of what is new for 2010, please refer to each model backgrounder for full details.

Air-Controlled Suspension (ACS) – The 2010 Can-Am™ Outlander MAX LTD line comes equipped with the industry’s first air-controlled
suspension. The ACS adjusts the rear high-pressure gas Fox Racing Shox-built suspension to six rider-selectable levels depending
on the trail conditions or rider preference. This allows the LTD to maintain handling characteristics even when fully loaded. The ACS air
compressor also comes with a hose that can be used to fill tires while out on the trail. In addition to the Outlander MAX 800R EFI LTD,
Can-Am now offers a Outlander MAX 500 EFI LTD option.

Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) – Can-Am introduces its advanced power steering system on all Outlander XT models, the Outlander
MAX Ltd models and the Renegade X xc. DPS comes with two rider selectable modes (“Min” and “Max”) for more or less steering assist that
is selectable by the rider for preference or terrain – an industry-exclusive feature. The Can-Am DPS has a quicker response to steering
torque input than other power steering systems on the market, and it has more kickback damping than the competition without sacrificing
essential feedback. In short: Less kickback, more feedback. And you can be assured the high-capacity, fade-resistant 50-amp motor means
the steering assist level will never change no matter how hard you use it – unlike some competition’s systems that fade with constant
heavy use. If you need more convincing our system stands up to whatever the trail bring, Can-Am racers have already proven DPS in the
gruelling GNCC race series.

Visco-Lok QE – All DPS-equipped models also come standard with Visco-Lok QE, which engages the Can-Am-exclusive Visco-Lok progressively
locking front differential even quicker – as soon as there is a speed difference between the two front wheels. This is the only
fully-locking front differential in the industry that has no speed-limiting drawback.
Outlander Cast-Aluminum Wheels – In an unprecedented move, Can-Am delivers on its promise of the enthusiast-driven brand by
giving all Outlander 500, 650 and 800R models cast-aluminum wheels. This means Can-Am offers more models with premium cast
aluminum wheels than any other manufacturer.

Renegade 800R X xc – Can-Am brings back its successful Renegade X, but with even more features to make it the most formidable sport
–utility ATV in the industry. With full beadlock wheels, a powerful Rotax® 800R engine, dual-mode DPS power steering and an industryfirst
front swaybar, the Renegade X xc is a serious cross-country machine for the discerning trail enthusiast. Can-Am also updates the
trick-looking X Package graphics and seat cover, too.

XT-P Package – In 2010, Can-Am takes the already-potent XT package and makes it even better. This package gives enthusiasts the
industry-exclusive XT package and a mean black look with striking yellow accents. XT-P exclusive cast-aluminum wheels, which complete the
look of the ATV. The XT-P package is available on the Outlander 500, 650 and 800R family.

More Outlander 650 Power – The already-powerful Outlander 650 family gets even more power from the engineers at Rotax. The 650
engine gets a seven-percent increase in power bringing its horsepower total to an even 60. This makes the 650 engine the most powerful
engine of any ATV below 800 cc!

Outlander MAX Ltd models – The Outlander MAX Ltd adds another engine choice for the customer looking for the ultimate in fit, finish
and performance. Joining the Outlander MAX Ltd 800R is the Outlander MAX Ltd 500. Both Ltd models get an updated Garmin® Nüvi 500
GPS unit with full touch-screen functionality and enough versatility that the user can easily take the removable GPS unit from the trail
to the street. Both models also come standard with the Can-Am-exclusive XT package (premium painted plastic, XL3000 winch, front
and rear bumpers, premium tires and hand guards), but also an exclusive cast-aluminum wheel finish, premium seat cover, mud guards
and painted plastic.

DS 450 X mx – The DS 450 X mx gets updated heel netting, and is the first production ATV in the industry to come with factory-equipped
nerf bars and heel nets. The netting is an added feature that many of the top Pro ATV motocross racers run on race ATVs.
Industry -Exclusive Camouflage Pattern – The Outlander 500, 650 and 800R family also get a camouflage upgrade for 2010. The
industry-exclusive Next G-1 Vista™ pattern by Next Camo has been designed for ultra-realistic 3D look and appeal. Thus the only thing a
hunter will need to be concerned with when riding his Vista-clad Outlander into the woods is if he will be able to find it once he parks it.
Update d Outlander Front Fascia – Last year the Outlander 800R family received an updated front fascia that not only looked great,
but also improved the performance of the ATV. This year all Can-Am Outlander ATVs get the updated fascia, which allows for more airflow
to the radiator and better cooling.

D.E.S.S. Expands – All Can-Am Outlander ATVs now have the industry-exclusive D.E.S.S. security system. The acronym stands for Digitally
Encoded Security System, which means only the owner’s key can start the ATV. With D.E.S.S., the ATV will not start by any other means
other than its matched key.

Aprilia‡ RSV 1000 R sportbike while the crankcase, clutch and transmission are specifically designed for
the rigors of off-road riding. Its free-flow design – with the largest piston bore, intake valves and throttle
body of the segment – delivers awesome power and great potential for performance tuning. A sophisticated
EFI system with superfast micro-controller optimizes performance at every rpm, compensating for
both temperature and altitude; throttle response is instant.
ALTEC™ aluminum frame = Aerospace-grade aluminum in dual-pyramidal design is exceptionally
strong and lightweight. Unique aluminum lock-bolt fastening system eliminates the need for welds.
Strength comes from computer-optimized design rather than heavier or added materials. The pyramidal
structure has been proven on BRP’s Ski-Doo® REV™ and REV-XP™ snowmobiles.
Redesigned radiator grill = Can-Am redesigned the radiator grill of the 2010 DS 450 family for
added protection and cooling performance on both the trail and race course.
R-type double A-arm front suspension = The R-Type forged aluminum double A-arm front suspension
delivers razor-sharp handling, remarkable bump absorption, and confident tracking. The radical design
with inverted dual-piston caliper – on the inside of the disc – enables placement of the ball-joints and kingpin
axis deep inside the wheel for reduced scrub and steering kickback, as well as self-correcting behavior under
hard braking. All this in a lightweight package with less unsprung weight than competitive designs for a better
ride and improved control.
KYB HPG piggyback shocks = Aluminum-bodied shocks with compression and rebound adjustment

linkage, hollow Chromoly 4140 rear axle, extended-reach aluminum hubs and aluminum chain sprocket.
Wilw ood™ braking systems = Inverted dual-piston calipers – mounted inside front rotors – enable
unique knuckle/spindle/A-arm design. Front and rear rotors’ wave shape is computer-designed for
exceptional cooling.
Performance wheels/tires = Specifically-designed ITP‡ Holeshot‡ SR tires to get maximum performance
from the DS 450 EFI. The rims are lightweight, yet durable, because of aluminum construction
with rolled bead
Performance ergonomics = Designed to give the active sport rider room and the right leverage.
Narrow body and seat with smooth transitional surfaces, wide foot pegs and deep heel guards.
Performance features = Detachable headlights, interchangeable front fenders.

DS 450 X mx EFI Key Features
Graphics package = The 2010 DS 450 X mx comes with an updated yellow and black graphics
package. The package adds more yellow accents to the classic X Package black scheme.
50-inch width = At 50 inches (1270 mm) wide, the DS 450 X mx meets the recognized standard for motocross
racing with its stock +2 (51 mm) A-arms. Racers will not have to purchase expensive aftermarket A-arms
to take the X mx to the track and be competitive.
Anti-vibe steering stem = A rubber-mounted +1 (25 mm) anti-vibe steering stem comes standard
on the DS 450 X mx. This gives the racer a better feel for the ATV while out on the track in a racing
stance. Again, there is no need to buy an aftermarket stem to be competitive. Mounted to the steering
stem is an aluminum 6061-T6 taper-profile handlebar with square racing pad.
Camber- and caster-adjustable front end = The front end of the DS 450 X mx is completely
adjustable with a shim-style adjustment. Each shim represents one-degree of adjustment with camber
adjustable from 11 degrees to 15 degrees; caster is adjustable from 3 degrees to 10 degrees. This allows
the racer to completely “dial in” the DS 450 X mx for his or her preference.
Race-bred suspension = The suspension, both front and rear, features (piggyback up front and
remote reservoir for the rear) KYB HPG shocks with Kashima coating. This high-performance shock
coating reduces internal friction and heat for consistent shock performance (less stiction and less fade).
The shocks are fully adjustable with high- and low-speed rebound and compression damping, as well as
preload adjustment. Two separate-rate springs with a crossover up front allow for maximum performance
in all conditions. Front and rear travel is 10.7 inches (272 mm).
ITP QuadCross MX Pro tires and ITP T-9 wheels // High-performance ITP Quadcross MX Pro tires
give the DS 450 X mx maximized traction on a variety of track surfaces, but especially for blue-grooved
tracks. The rear tires are 18-inch motocross-ready tires complete with 8-inch (203 mm) black, aluminum
ITP T-9 beadlock wheels with an inner reinforcement ring. Up front, 20-inch (508 mm) ITP Quadcross MX
Pro tires mounted on 10-inch (254 mm) black, aluminum ITP T-9 wheels give the DS 450 X mx precise
cornering ability with decreased lateral roll.
Aluminum nerf bars = In order to race motocross at any level, nerf bars are a requirement.
Straight from the factory, the DS 450 X mx comes complete with lightweight aluminum nerf bars with
netted heel guards. Side extensions are adjustable to a variety of customizable widths. If one desires, the
nerf bars and netted heel guards can be removed with ease.
Adjustable-width axle = Many of today’s top motocross pros are choosing to race with a rear width
that is slightly narrower than the front-end width. This is possible with the DS 450 X mx thanks to a
chromoly 4140 adjustable-width hollow axle. Adjustment from 46 (1168 mm) to 50 inches (1270 mm) is
possible with .5-inch (13 mm) spacers.
Motocross-specific ride height = The DS 450 X mx comes from the factory with a ride height of
seven inches (178 mm) (assuming a 175-pound rider (79 kg) with gear), meaning exceptional cornering
performance for a lower centre of gravity.

DS 450 X xc EFI Key Features
Graphics package = The 2010 DS 450 X xc comes with an updated yellow and black graphics
package. The package adds more yellow accents to the classic X Package black scheme.
46-inch width = At 46 inches (1168 mm) wide, the DS 450 X xc is the perfect width for the tight woods
courses cross-country racers love. With forged aluminum upper and lower A-arms, the X xc can precisely pick
its way through the trees.
Anti-vibe steering stem = A rubber-mounted +1 (25 mm) anti-vibe steering stem comes standard on
the DS 450 X xc. This gives the racer a better feel for the ATV while in an attacking stance out on the course.
There is no need to buy an aftermarket stem to be competitive. Mounted to the steering stem is an aluminum
6061-T6 taper-profile handlebar with square racing pad.
Caster-adjustable front end = The dual aluminum A-arm front end of the DS 450 X xc comes with a
shim-style caster adjustment. Each shim represents one-degree of adjustment with 3 degrees to 10 degrees of
caster adjustment. This allows the racer to completely “dial in” the DS 450 X xc for his or her preference.
Race-bred suspension = The suspension, both front and rear, features (piggyback up front and
remote reservoir for the rear) KYB HPG shocks. The shocks are fully adjustable with high- and low-speed
rebound and compression damping, as well as preload adjustment. Two separate-rate springs with a
crossover up front allow for maximum performance in all conditions. Front travel is 9.6 inches (244 mm)
while rear travel is 10.5 inches.(267 mm).
ITP Holeshot GNCC tires and ITP T-9 wheels = The DS 450 X xc features 20-inch (508 mm) rear

(ACS). The ACS system lets the rider choose between six preset suspension settings for the two high-pressure gas Fox Racing Shox-built
shocks. BRP chose premium Fox Racing Shox for the ultimate in performance and durability. The system can be adjusted on the fly to suit
changing trail conditions or rider preferences. An added feature of the ACS system is an air hose from the compressor that can be used
to fill tires while out on the trail.

Outlander EFI MAX LTD Family Key Features
Rotax 800R V-Twin engine (option) = This 80º V-twin engine is still the most powerful engine in the
industry. The liquid-cooled, single overhead cam power plant has four valves per cylinder and is fed by
a 46mm throttle body and two VDO Siemens‡ fuel injectors. The sophisticated electronic fuel injection
system automatically keeps the 800R engine’s performance at its peak, regardless of temperature or
altitude. The progressive throttle ensures power is manageable whether in precise rock crawling or
opening it up on the straights.
Rotax 500 V-Twin engine (option) = This 80º V-twin engine represents potent power and smooth
power delivery that the competition can only dream of providing. The liquid-cooled, single overhead
cam power plant has four valves per cylinder and is fed by a 46mm throttle body and two VDO Siemens‡
fuel injectors. The sophisticated electronic fuel injection system automatically keeps the 500 engine’s
performance at its peak, regardless of temperature or altitude. The progressive throttle ensures power is
manageable whether in precise rock crawling or opening it up on the straights.
Air-Controlled Suspension (ACS) = The 2010 Can-Am Outlander MAX LTD line comes
equipped with the industry’s first air-controlled suspension. The ACS adjusts the rear high-pressure gas
Fox Racing Shox-built suspension to six rider-selectable levels depending on the trail conditions or rider
preference. This allows the Ltd to maintain handling characteristics even when fully loaded. The ACS air
compressor also comes with a hose that can be used to fill tires while out on the trail.
Dual-mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) = The Can-Am DPS system has two modes meaning
the rider can choose the amount of assist depending on the conditions. Each DPS-equipped model
with its dual-mode selectability for the ultimate in rider control depending on the conditions.
Visco-Lok QE front differential = Progressively transfers power from a slipping front wheel
to the gripping one – automatically with no buttons to push or levers to pull. Plus, there’s no wheel hop or
driveline wind-up so the system is totally transparent to the driver and extremely easy to steer. Can lock
up to 100% with no rev or speed limiter. All DPS-equipped models come with the Visco-Lok QE calibration
giving an even quicker engagement of the front differential. This differential, unlike some competitor’s
differentials, does not have a speed or rev limiter.
More-powerful magneto = The LTD package provides a more-powerful magneto with 650
watts of power output.
Removable Garmin Nüvi 500 touch-screen GPS unit = Rugged full-color GPS unit removes
from its cradle on the handlebars and can be used for driving, hiking, walking or boating. The unit is also
geocaching ready and comes with an 8-hour rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Use the Micro SD‡ slot to
expand the memory of the unit or load new maps. For the car, the Nüvi 500 features turn-by-turn directions
for easy navigation.
Trailing Torsional Independent (TTI) rear suspension = Trailing arm design provides excellent
control and stability, especially in rough terrain by eliminating scrub. Wheels move rearward as they
move up and down producing a smoother ride than the competition, and the ATV does not waver down the
trail. Plus, TTI has 75% fewer parts than competitive designs and significantly decreases tire wear.
Surrounding Spar Technology (SST™) frame = Rather than the common tubular box, the SST
frame is a single spar that is lightweight, yet strong. It contributes to the Outlander model’s benchmark
power-to-weight ratio and low centre of gravity.
Improved front suspension geometry = Our engineers worked hard to improve the handling
of the front end by adjusting the geometry of the front suspension. The result? Lighter steering on
the trail meaning less rider fatigue. (800R version only)
BRP XL 3000 Winch = At 3,000 pounds (1.360 kg) capacity, 500 more pounds (227 kg) than 2007
model. The winch comes complete with a roller fairlead and its remote control stows in front storage
compartment.
High-density polyethylene injection-molded skid plate = Added protection.
12-inch LTD -exclusive cast-aluminum wheels = Lightweight 4 twin spoke design gives
an aggressive and premium look to the Outlander. The new wheels save 1.4 pounds of unsprung weight
versus last year’s LTD wheels.
26-inch (66cm) Carlisle ACT radial tires = Great lightweight traction.
Steel front and rear bumpers = Heavy duty and a tough look.
Wind deflectors = Premium look and protection from brush, cold.
Inboard disc brakes = Unique design both front and rear reduces unsprung weight and helps centralize
masses for more responsive handling. Also better protects against mud and debris.
Color options = The 800R Ltd comes with painted plastic in Radiant Red Metallic or Metallic Silver.
The 500 Ltd is available in Metallic Silver painted plastic only.
Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.) = Industry’s first standard anti-theft device.
Electronic code in key must match code in ECU to start.
Front and rear steel racks = 100-pound (45 kg) capacity in front, 200 pounds (90 kg) in back.
The industry’s best warranty = Each Can-Am Outlander ATV features the industry’s premier
warranty meaning the factory stands by your machine.

Outlander MAX Benefits
Outlander MAX models are designed specifically for riding with a passenger. The longer vehicle wheelbase
not only delivers rock-solid stability and super predictable handling with a passenger, but one-up, too.
Ability to swap the seat and rack extension box without tools makes the MAX model extremely versatile.
Longer vehicle wheelbase = The passenger rides well in front of the rear axle for rock-solid
stability and super predictable handling.
Stadium-style seating = The passenger rides above the driver, stadium-style, and can see down
the trail.
Passenger comfort features = A well-padded active backrest moves with rider. Raised footrests
and multi-position handholds add comfort.
Convertible rack system = The passenger seat can be removed and replaced with a rack-extension/
totable cargo box in just seconds, without tools. BRP offers several accessories, such as a cargo box
and touring box that interface seamlessly with this system.
